Land Use, Planning & Zoning
The Planning/Community Development Department is responsible for the review and management of development and redevelopment and ensuring that projects are orderly, efficient, and of high standard. This includes making sure that projects meeting zoning ordinances. 

The City of Mound exercises its zoning authority to regulate the use and development of land within the city. Zoning is intended to promote and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community and its residents. 

The Zoning Code defines the current rights owners have for their properties. Properties are divided by zoning districts. The zoning ordinance regulates the types of uses that can occur within each zoning district, as well as specific building and development standards. The district boundaries are depicted on the zoning map. 

Planning, Zoning and Development Review Applications
Some projects my include a request for zoning changes, variances, conditional use permits, subdivisions, site plans, plats, easement vacations, and/or a comprehensive plan amendment. All of these are required to be reviewed by the Planning Commission and approved by the City Council.

Review Process
Land use and subdivision applications are due on the first business day of each month. After submission, applications are routed for department/consultant/agency/utility company review. If application is deemed complete, it will be scheduled to be reviewed by the Planning Commission and the City Council. If an application is deemed incomplete, a letter/notice will be sent out identifying the items that are incomplete.
